Innovative Intaglio: Summer Courses 2026

A two day workshop and overview in current, innovative and safer etching with Friedhard Kiekeben using redefined high quality and archival materials and chemistry. The course program includes manual methods such as acrylic resist and metal salt etching on copperplate, aluminum, plastics, found materials, and cardboard, with demonstrations in drypoint, digital stencil, collagraph, Dremel tool etching, TetraPak printing, aquatint, color inversion printing, mono print painting, aquatint, hard and soft ground, low pressure printing, and more. Reprographic and digital facilities are available on site. Friedhard Kiekeben is the inventor of several safer etching methods and a pioneer in ‘acrylic resist etching’ and other new methods since the early 1990s. This current course includes new and updated methods such as a newly redeveloped Edinburgh Etch solution for clean metal etching, electro etching, photo etching examples, and nontoxic etching grounds for 2026. All materials are provided.

accessible, modern lithography: Polyester Plate Lithography & Kitchen Litho, Monotype, and Hybrid Printing, including drawing-based mark making, brush work, touche and ink washes, reprographic and digital working methods, monochrome and multiplate color printing, press and hand printing on artist quality papers, VOC solvent and fume free processes
